  • Jason
  • Jason Todd
    Race Director/President

A lifelong native of the Virginia Peninsula, Jason and a small group of friends began Flat-Out Events as a “side” job in 2009. As Flat-Out began to add more and more events, the side job became much more, and in 2011 Jason left his job as an auditor at Riverside Health System to run the day-to-day operations. Always active in sports growing up, Jason never viewed running as “fun”. That would change in 2011 when he was challenged to run his first race, the Shamrock 8K in Virginia Beach. He fell in love with the energy, enthusiasm, the feeling of accomplishment, and the internal competition. This has spurred his passion to pass this along to others. Since that 8K, Jason has completed 8 half marathons, 2 full marathons, and has participated on two 8-man 200 mile relay teams. His favorite race to date was the Monument Avenue 10K in Richmond. Like so many, he hopes to one day qualify for the Boston Marathon. Jason is a husband to Dianne, and has two sons, Sean and Joel. Jason has his hands in all aspects of Flat-Out races, but focuses largely on the operations aspects of race day.

Jason’s favorite part of a Flat-Out Event: “I like getting to do something outside of the box. I also get great satisfaction in knowing that what we do has a direct and positive impact on people’s lives.”

  • Elizabeth Gates
    Director of Marketing

Haling from Poquoson, Virginia, Elizabeth joined the Flat-Out Events team in 2014. Influenced to love running at young age, Elizabeth recalls watching running events with her dad growing up, and eventually joined the cross country and track teams in high school. She has continued to pursue running goals, completing numerous half-marathons and the Chicago Marathon in 2013. Being surrounded by water on three sides is not enough, as she aspires to one-day head to the Island of Hawaii for the Kona Half Marathon in Kailua. Elizabeth is a 2014 graduate of Purdue University (Boiler Up!), and when she is not working enjoys reading, watching too much HGTV (her words), spending time with family, and traveling. Even though her time with Flat-Out Events has been short, Elizabeth has worked in numerous race day positions including start/finish line management and volunteer management. She is also in charge of coordinating expos for the One City Marathon and Run for the Dream.

Elizabeth’s favorite part of a Flat-Out Event: “Seeing runners cross the finish line who never thought they could run and finish a race makes everything worth it.”

  • Jen
  • Jen Cunningham
    Community Relations Officer

Growing up a military brat, Jen can’t call just a single location home as she has lived all across the US, as well as South America and Europe. By college, Jen landed at the beaches of Florida, and used running as an excuse to get outside and exercise. Running went from leisure to an internal competition, and before long Jen was hooked. This came as no surprise as both of Jen’s parents encouraged active and healthy lifestyles while she was growing up. Jen has gone on to conquer many distances including 5K, 10K, several half marathons and the Marine Corp Marathon, by far her favorite race to date. Jen says she hope to run the Napa Valley Half Marathon one day, although we all think she has other things in mind for that trip! Jen is a wife, and mother of 5 (3 kids and 2 fur kids). In addition to running Jen also teaches yoga, enjoys mountain biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and anything else that gets her outside. Jen joined Flat-Out Events part-time in 2014. Aside from connecting Flat-Out Events with the business community, Jen also oversees all post race activities.

Jen’s favorite part of a Flat-Out Event: “I love it all. Running events create such positive energy. I love watching the kids get out there and have fun, the parents cheering them on, and the runners crossing the finish line for the first time. The sense of accomplishment is moving.”

  • Deanna Hill
    Registration Guru

Originally a product of the Hoosier State, Dee moved to Virginia in the mid 70s. In 2010, Dee’s boss at Chick-fil-A started a running group, Team Members Transforming Together (T3), and challenged team members to train and compete together. This simple challenge has led to an amazing 22 half marathons, including two Disney World Half Marathons and a Tough Mudder. In 2015, Dee completed her first full marathon, and of course, it was at Disney World! Although she has never been a participant, her favorite race is the Chick-fil-A 10K &5K because of the family atmosphere. The next destination half marathon on Dee’s list is the Grand Canyon Half Marathon. Dee is a wife to Mike, a mom to three girls, has three grandchildren, and one “cute” beagle named Scooter. Not only is Dee the registration guru, she is also secretly the reason why everything continues to move forward. Dee has been getting things done for Flat-Out Events since we got started in 2009.

Dee’s favorite part of a Flat-Out Event: “The influence, and positive peer pressure- I love how we challenge each other to get out of our comfort zones.”
